Read the date.
Inspect the evidence.
Chronos Arc places historical milestones beside one another so readers can explore context and ask better questions. The collection is selective and still developing.
What earns a place here
Entries describe identifiable publications, objects, organizations, people, practices and events. Religious and political milestones also provide orientation: inclusion does not require a demonstrated connection to an occult practice.
Being close on the timeline does not establish influence, shared origins or a chain of transmission. A claimed connection needs its own supporting evidence.
What a date actually dates
Each entry labels what is dated: a surviving witness, estimated composition or editing, publication, translation, historical event, or historical span. A surviving manuscript does not date the origin of its tradition; an attestation is not automatically the earliest known one.
Precision is separate. A point marks a dated milestone, a hollow marker an approximation, a solid band a duration, and a striped band a dating window. Open the notes for the source wording and any display accommodations. BCE and CE are shown without a year zero.
Sources support specific claims
Entry notes identify sources, locations within them, and what they support. Archaeological catalogues, documentary evidence and scholarship serve different roles. A source reporting a belief establishes that it was reported; that alone does not establish the belief's supernatural explanation.
“Sourced with qualifications” means the stated limitations matter. “Unresolved” means the research does not yet support a dated placement. Unchecked evidence is not automatically a scholarly dispute.
One record, several useful comparisons
An entry may appear in several categories while retaining one shared account and set of references. Subcategories help readers narrow their view. These are editorial navigation choices, not claims of exclusive ownership or lineage.
Empty intervals can reflect missing research, missing surviving evidence, or the current filters. They are not proof of historical inactivity. Coverage across cultures, regions and periods remains uneven.
An inspectable working record
Every dated record presents its reviewed wording, sources and qualifications together. The Research & notes panel keeps undated questions apart from the plotted chronology. A citation is support for a specific claim, not a guarantee that an entire tradition has been exhaustively verified.
